Sweet and Salty Yogurt Matha- Summer Recipes

Matha or Ghol

With Spring bidding adieu quickly this year the rising heat is getting unbearable, here’s a quick and cool yogurt drink from my home state of Tripura, Sweet and Salty Matha to help you stay hydrated.

Let me say that there are regional variations of this yogurt based drink in the Eastern, Western, Northern and even Southern belt it’s spiced buttermilk, more accurate the Mattha or chaas which is a savoury and spice infused drink or plain salted.

Tripura as I have mentioned several times is a bordering state of Bangladesh or East Bengal, hence the local Bengali cuisine in the state is influenced majorly by Bangal or East Bengal cuisine. This chilled matha can be sweet or salty or a combination of both with a squeeze of lime(optional). Recipe shared by one of my Bangal friends from my home state.

Method

1.In a large mixing bowl or glass jar add the yogurt, sugar, and salt and beat well with a spoon until the sugar dissolves.
